Lauren Waring Douglas

Lauren Waring Douglas is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. She began her professional career as a production coordinator for South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV). Since then some of her projects include credits with Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, A&E Television - Biography Network, and ABC Studios. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Media Management from Columbia College Chicago at the height of the Great Recession which started a series of defining moments in her life. At one point, Lauren was temping for three different agencies. Feeling defeated, she packed her things and moved back to South Carolina, but something immediately happened when she crossed the border into her home state. Her phone started ringing, and each phone call was someone offering her a freelance gig!

She knew then, a significant focus of her life’s work would be in South Carolina uplifting and celebrating the stories of her Gullah Geechee heritage.

Since that time, it’s been a series of purposeful experiences that have led her to her current season. Freelance gigs, and organizing and hosting community workshops for the SC Film Commission, inspired her to co-found the SC Media Collective, a social support group for South Carolina’s Black filmmakers and industry professionals.  Her current projects include The History of Sol Legare Island, E is For: and When Porgy Came Home, the untold story of Charleston’s famous opera, Porgy and Bess.

Lauren seeks to give voice to the oft-silenced Gullah Geechee culture of South Carolina.
